SOA ensembles visit schools in Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie Counties in Georgia and Aiken, SC presenting music performances, lectures, demonstrations and a question and answer session especially for fourth and fifth grade students designed by Maestro Kuwahara.  SOA has been present in schools throughout the CSRA for over 20 years.  In the 2010-11 season, SOA will present principal musicians whom students have come to know and guest artists performing in SOA’s concert series.

This year SOA will make music connections with Trio en Cuivre.  This Brass Trio has been put together by SOA Principal Trombone Bradley Edwards.

"Brass Parts:  Making Them Fit Together"

This interactive educational program is designed to meet music curriculum needs of grades K-5.  Centered around "Triga" by Frigyes Hidas, this presentation talks about a variety of styles and teaches students to be active listeners.  Dynamics, Legato vs. Staccato, Melody vs. Accompaniment and tone production will also be discussed and demonstrated in short sample solos.

In addition to Trio en Cuivre, SOA is proud to offer a four day residency by the Doric String Quartet, and two day residencies with both Wendy Cohen, Flute and Vonda Darr, Harp as well as The Georgia Guitar Quartet.
